Helsinki, New Year, please help

Is it safe up there at night walking? As I understand, we should go from airport to city centre with HSL bus 615? What else to see besides Cathedral? Is it very crowded in New Year? Are restaurants, bars, cafes available to sit quietly for 1-2 hours? What are the prices there?
