first time to Lapland, advice much appreciated!

Hi,

We are planning a family trip to Lapland in December 2013, there will be myself the hubby & 2 kids age 4&5.

Could anyone offer any advice on where to go, who to book with, best things to do while there?

Is it better to do a package or book things separately ourselves?

We want to stay 3 nights I think, & seeing Santa is the most important thing, & would love to go where there's snow (have read some reports of no snow)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks. Eve

On a std winter there's snow everywhere in Lapland in Dec. Would still plan to go during the latter half of the month.

We have been to both yllas and levi and while we enjoyed both holidays found levi more fun as it isnt as quiet as yllas. Very festive and just the right sort of mix of a few shops and bars without being too big and commercial. Loved it and would go back for sure.

we're going to saariselka with thomsons for 4 nights. saariselka is supposed to be quieter than other resorts which we prefer. aLso with thomsons if you go to saariselka you get private family meeting with santa at his cabin in the forest.this was the deciding factor for us with a young child.plus more chance of more snow in early dec as further north than roveniemi

If you can try and go for a week it will be cheaper. Try looking at Inghams as there week prices are pretty good. It also gives you extra time to do things without rushing around.
