Northern Lights in summer

Are Northern Lights likely/possibly to be seen in July, or are they more a winter phenomenon?

Not a chance. Summer is time for a midnight sun, not northern lights.

Even though around mid July might not see midnight sun anymore, nights will still be too bright. Maybe early September it will get dark enough for the northern lights to be visible - if they occur.

My suggestion: Drive north, climb to a hill top at midnight and enjoy the sun... :) In Rovaniemi Juhannuskallio at top of hill Ounasvaara is a traditional viewing spot. A nice view down to Rovaniemi and the river valley.

Thank you. I figured that must be the case. Still, we're very much looking forward to seeing your part of the world. Our countdown to Finland is 8 weeks!
