Trip to Hvitträsk

Some last minute planning - thanks for all the help so far...

http://www.nba.fi/en/hvittrask_en

We're thinking of taking a trip out to the Arts and Crafts houses at Hvitträsk next Monday (we've checked the website and it appears that the place is open on Mondays at this time of year) but, as we are travelling back home later that evening, we wondered how long such a trip would take - we're thinking of spending 3-4 hours at the site (including lunch in the restaurant there) but wondered how long the journey itself takes? From the website it appears that it's a local train from Helsinki–Kauklahti (E, L, S and U trains) and then a short taxi to the site - would people on TA agree? Also would this train journey be covered in the one day single-charge €12 'regional' ticket as we had planned to get one of those on the Monday for some sightseeing first (either Hvitträsk or Suomenlinna) and then the bus out to the airport in the evening...

Yes, the regional ticket covers the train as well.

I guess 45 mins from the center is pretty close what the trip takes.

Hvitträsk and the surroundings are great, but touristically far away from civlization.

There's nothing much at Kauklahti and I wouldn't count on finding a taxi. You're out in the sticks there. It's at least a half-hour walk to Hvitträsk from the station, so figure that into your time budget. It is a beautiful place, though, especially in the autumn. A total of 4 hours including lunch is enough time, IMO. There was no sign for Hvitträsk at the station when I was there a couple of years ago: you need to walk back towards Helsinki with the rail line on your right for a short way before you come across a sign.

A day ticket for Helsinki at €6.80 covers Suomenlinna as well as transport within the town. If you're not going to Hvitträsk it will be a tad cheaper to get a day ticket for your touring plus a single ticket to the airport on bus 615.

There's a taxi station next to Kauklahti train station. Should not be an issue to get a cab from there. If there are no cars available at the station you can call +359 9 1066 2780, you will be connected to the nearest available taxi or taxi central.

According to the metropolitan Journey planner aikataulut.ytv.fi/reittiopas/en/…

you'd better allow at least 1h 10mins in each direction. The U train to Luoma seems to be the fastest option if not taking a taxi from Kauklahti.

Your day ticket will probably cover the train to Kauklahti (in the City of Espoo, in the zwo zone area) but not Luoma (in the municipality of Kirkkonummi, in the three zone extended area). hsl.fi/EN/…default.aspx

Since you have a plane to catch I'd opt fot the Kauklahti+taxi. Especially if you'd like to something else too.

Hmm, the train from Helsinki to Kauklahti takes ~30 mins and the taxi ride of the last ~5kms should take way less than ~10 mins. If you decide to walk, then the trip will take longer.
