Maps

Hi people

We are flying into Reykjavik, having a few days in town and then picking up a car from Blue Car rentals in the city to drive up to the north (Isafjordur) and back over an eight day period.

Blue Car has advised that they don't provide any maps with the rental. What would be the best place to pick up a decent map for the trip?

There's an Eymundsson bookstore inside the terminal, duty-free.

Why not print off some maps ( maybe from google maps) at home? With the warning that times are not always accurate on gm.

I second Northern_traveler00 opinion. Get a good map. It comes with the new version of the Road Guide book.

I love maps, and bought two from a specialty store before I travelled. They were both a disappointment, as was the expensive guide book I bought.

At KEF airport, I bought a map titled Ferdakort Island 1:500 000 (sorry I can’t reproduce the Icelandic special characters. ). I love this map that I bought at KEF! It has good info about that various classes of roads, and also shows topographic features like elevations, lava flows and glaciers, as well as symbols for camping, local pools, gas stations, accommodations, huts, and much more. It has a separate place index and a road distance chart.i have used it for pre-trip planning for future trips.

I usually don’t find that internet maps printed on my printer have the quality and detail I want.

Well, it is a gorgeous, useful map! I have spent a lot of time looking at it, both here at home and in the evenings in Iceland before the next day’s drive.

Thanks everyone. It looks like picking it up at KEF would be the best option. I'm presuming there is a shop in the Arrivals area?

That's the bookstore. It will be in front of your eyes, inevitably.
