How much US dollars to exchange

My wife and I will be traveling to your great country in three weeks. We will be doing the Ring road during 12 days, I hear that credit cards are accepted everywhere. Should I exchange 100 dollars into your currency for miscellaneous stuff? Is that two little?

Thanks for your help.

There are ATMs in Iceland. Very few people would use $100 as miscellaneous .

It's a good beginning.

If you want to have it ready on hand from the beginning of your trip, you can either use the ATM (as mentioned) of exchange at the bank at the airport (not the bureau of exchange, but the bank) ... or any bank around the country.

It will be good to have 100 ISK coins for the places where going to the bathroom requires a contribution. I mean, a monetary contribution.... asides the fertilizer (lol).

Travelling to Iceland was the first time I heard using CC to be a matter of course or first choice.

As one who never usually uses my card other than for unavoidable circumstances, I can't fathom the reason for overwhelming advice to use credit.

I like to know what I'm spending and paying for it then.

Im happy to hand over cash and be done with it.

Maybe times are changing.

I witnessed one instance of the network being down at a gas station so it was cash only and customers were completely flummoxed (but I need gas!). I say have enough cash handy to fill up your tank.

In my experience $100 is more than you need. Remember, if you convert that much to kroner and then don’t use most of it, you either have to find a way to spend it at the end of your trip, or get stuck with it. Converting it back in the US will probably be very difficult. And nobody converts coins, so try not to get stuck with many of them.

We didn’t need one cent of cash during our last five-day visit. We could pay with CC for everything, including public toilets. $20 is enough to convert.

Have at least $100 converted. Better to be safe than sorry. Applies worldwide. You can use the unused amount on the last day or at the duty free shop when leaving Iceland.

We’ve been twice for a total of 18 days. South, east, north and the west fjords. I’m not sure we have ever cashed in even a penny. Even the ice cream vendors take credit cards
