Snaefellsnes to Latrabjarg

After exploring the Snaefellsnes Penninsula I plan on spending a couple of days in the Westfjords. Is the scenery from Snaefellsnes to Latrabjarg worth driving or is it better to take the ferry?

Hello figlet! And welcome to Iceland :)

If you like driving through narrow fjords with nice table-shape rocky mountains and birch-grown slopes with rugged landscape in between, than driving through the fjords is far better option. When you visit Látrabjarg, make sure you don't miss Rauðisandur, it is a must-see, and probably one of the most underestimated place on the whole island.

It will be a quite shock for you to see that kind of landscape in Iceland.

Anyway, have a great trip and remember to drive safely, the icelandic roads are not made for fastdriving :)

I assume you're looking at a summer visit? Driving these roads in winter can be very difficult ...

At this time I plan on visiting the area the first week of June? Is this adviseable?

I plan on renting a sturdy 4x4 for sure. I realize that most travelers are not self driving especially in Iceland but the Westfjords seems beautiful. If people think that this is not recommended the first week in June please let me know. Does anyone have other suggestions?
