I saw one of their cars yesterday out in Þingvellir and it looked nice and rather new. That is about all the information I can give you.

I can really recomend the Faircar Iceland. Me and my husband we rented a small car from them but it was technicaly in a very good condition and at very low price. We went all around the Iceland for one week and we did'n have any trouble with the car. Even if there were any trouble, we could just call them from anywhere and they would arrange help. When we returned the car they were very professional and they delivered us back to hotel. The people from Faircar were very helpfull and when my husband forgot something in the car they guy from the Faircar brought it to the airport at no charge. I really recommend this company and I will definitly choose the same renting company when coming back to Iceland.

Well, now I can add my own review... AVOID!

--------------------------------------------------------

I paid for a 'Class G' Jeep Cherokee which was allowed to drive on all F roads except 9 of them.

Instead, I got a different class of 4wd, much less capable, and terms banned driving on 33 different F roads.

Einar would not admit that the terms were different, even though I had saved a copy of the html page on my iPad. He did however admit that they don't actually have a Jeep Cherokee, even though the picture was on their website. There was no refund for the lesser class of vehicle, because they wouldn't admit it was different. As a result of banning almost all F roads, we had to change our planned route for several days of off-road driving. He pulled out an old map and said we could still drive on the W part of 'F208'. I told him it is no longer an F road and he was shocked that I knew that - TripAdvisor forum research: WIN, FairCar: FAIL!

I paid 50 euros extra for the car to be delivered to, and picked up from, my accomodation in Reykjavik (instead of Keflavik area). Instead of dropoff, I was picked up and taken out to what looked like a temporary office in the suburbs to do the paperwork - adding time, and cost of fuel each way to me.

Instead of the Jeep, we got a Suzuki Grand Vitara. Not long after driving back from the suburbs to my accomodation in 101, I was visited by Einar saying that he had to take the car back. It was badly leaking gearbox oil on the ground and he had noticed a puddle. He admitted that the gearbox had just been worked on and that he hadn't checked it. We were told another car was on the way from Keflavik to replace it and it was 30 mins away. A couple of hours later, a lesser, older car arrived. When they tried to move the Vitara, the battery was dead - listening to the radio had flattened it. I hate to think what would have happened if we'd been stranded with it in the highlands. As a result of the delay, we had to skip 4 hours of SW sightseeing and drive straight to the Westman Islands ferry. Luckily, I'd booked a late afternoon trip...

During the (third) vehicle inspection I spotted some large stone chips and it was an ordeal to get Einar's father to write this on the condition report. Instead of answering my questions about whether or not I'd be charged if they found more stone chips, the conversation was constantly redirected to how stone chips are formed, which is rather obvious.

There was no one at the return spot when we arrived, so we had to ring and wait for someone to get the car. Luckily we had a phone, as there is little nearby. Inspection was to be done in Kef area - after having driven the car from Reykjavik - so we would have been liable for any potential damage on the way.

On return, I accidently left some money in the open centre console/cup holder of the car, maybe 2000-3000Kr. I haven't heard anything from them, though they definitely would have found it. Just mentioning it would have been polite, and professional. I would have said to keep or donate it...

Damage charges 30 days after return. Einar contacted me 30days after i returned the car saying there was a door ding that i need to pay for. when i rented, i picked up the car in the dark and returned it a week later in the light with plenty of time for the agent to inspect, but he did NOT inspect. i even pointed out some paint peeling and the agent said it was normal for that model... but he did not do an inspection. so 30 days after return, einar emailed me with pics saying i need to pay for a minor door ding. when i asked why it took 30days even though the pics were dated the day i returned it.... he said they need time to do a complete inspection. I'm happy with the rental and price.... but not the damage scam. if you rent take VERY DETAILED PICS BEFORE AND AFTER YOUR RENTAL WITH AGENT PRESENT. BART

Hi there

We rented a car with Faircar for three week this summer. Rental and car was okay. But we go also a mail, 10 weeks later claiming that we damaged the door. While returning I asked for inspection and he said he cannot see the damages on the dirty car and has to do it the next day after cleaning. The email attaching 'a repair' of about 800€ plus 170€ administration fee I received only 10 weeks later! Very unprofessional to me.

Hi, we had the same experience. Two months after we brought the car back and got our deposit back, FairCar charged us 1.154 euro for a, so called, dent in the front door. They send us some very bad pictures that didn't prove anything. After two months they could of course say whatever they want. They knew we were not in Iceland anymore. Somehow it's legal to charge your credit card even after giving back the deposit and we didn't find a way to protect the customer in this kind of situation. We discussed this with FairCar, asked them why they came with this bill after giving back our deposit and we tried to get some prove we made the dent. They were not reasonable at all and even told us they can not be the cheapest one in Iceland if they don't let their customers pay. Says enough I think. Don't rent a FairCar car unless you want an unfair treatment.
