U hand over passport when u arrive , Hotel or appts scane it & it's handed right back over to you, that's what's supposed to happen & has happened to me every time, sometimes they keep it overnight but not very often,

If you are renting in Palm Mar it must be a private rent and that seems a strange request.

It's common enough in hotels or holiday rentals to leave it in reception but I have never heard of a private rental asking for that .

I've never heard of a private let asking for a copy of a passport either. If it were me I'd be very reluctant to offer it. As said show it when you arrive and get it back asap.

Why would a private landlord want to see a passport?? I wonder would it have to do with your home being empty while you are on holiday?

A passport does not show the owner's address.

Is this for a holiday rental or a long term rental? It might make a difference.

1)you have only enquired not booked

they do not need to see your passport for this.

2)if you do book,do not give your passport details out untill you actually arrive,it is eu law that hotels, apartements have to hold details on foreign nationals from outside of the eu,but most ask for it from all nationatlies except there own.

3)a lot take copies of your passport details instead of a security deposit but on arrival not before,

so basically do not give your passport details untill arrival and any establishment who asks for them before your arrival to me sounds very dodgy
