Sat Nav in Malta

Going to Malta at the end of the month for a couple of weeks, anyone know if there are GPS maps for Malta available for TomTom One Europe. None shown on TomTom website.

I have seen functional GPS maps in Malta onboard cars , but do not know exactly from where they were downloaded.

Will try a search for you , but sure that GPS works on Malta roads .

Have not got one yet for my old banger as my memory still serves me well for finding places !

Thanks very much for that. Google tells me that TomTom maps are .prm file types. I have Google maps in my mobile phone but that is pretty restricted as an in-car Sat Nav system.

Our GPS is a Garmin and it does have a Malta map available. We don't bother to use it though but apparently it's quite good.

Arandora

I have been driving in Malta daily these last 35 years and do not need a GPS , but in reality , since Malta is only a small island , you cannot go more than 10 miles in the wrong direction before you hit a coast road or the beach .

With a good map , you can then find your way , very easily , since all road signs are in English and helpful for tourist directions.

Once you have some visible landmarks mapped out , you do not even need to think twice in which direction you are going .

Going towards Mdina , the walled city on the hill is visible from miles away .

Going towards Marsaxlokk , the fishing village, the powerstation chimney leads you there easily .

Going to Sliema , the Portomaso tower block is visible from all the open spaces .

There isn't a Tom Tom map of Malta as yet. I don't really need it but Nokia maps and gps is available if you want it. It's standard on an N95 8g.

Really though if you take a sat nav with you be prepared to take it everywhere you go because otherwise, believe me, the vehicle will get broken into and it will get stolen if there is any indication whatsoever you have one. It's really not difficult to find your way around. If you have Hertz or Avis you will be supplied with a map there is a good road map available in most tourist shops and even has hotel names for the major resorts.

Thanks fot all the replies. I'm very familiar with Malta, having visited over 20 times over the years since driving used to be "on the left, on the right, in the shade." However, I have a TomTom and thought I would use it if maps were available. If not, I'll find my way to a quarry as I usually do! :)
