Food

Hello out there, we are going to Malta this summer and staying in a villa. I would like some advice on the best places to buy local produce. We usually support local markets and buy fish from the quay side. Advice on local specialities would also be of help.

Thanks for any help

You may get replies if you tell us where the villa is? Also have you hired a car or are you using local transport? Suggest going to Marsaxlokk for fish.

Several shops and supemarket and vanshops (mobile van) selling local products.

There are also market days in some towns. Like Marsaxlokk for fish on saturdays.

If you say where you are going be based you will get more specific answers.

The idea of having a car is good one when you are loaded with shopping.

Cheers

Thank you folks for the info so far. The villa is in Zabbar and we shall be hiring a car for the holiday.

Fish is a particular favourite of ours as are fresh fruit and veg.

There is a Scotts Supermarket at Zabbar (Triq il-Mina ta’ Hompesch; 21 823459;)

7.00am to 7.00pm (with Late Night Shopping until 8pm on Thursdays and Fridays). Click to view Map http://www.scotts.com.mt/scotts/home.aspx

Seconds from Hompesch Gate, the Zabbar Scotts is another outlet serving much of Malta’s south. This large shop has a manned fresh fruit and vegetable section and butcher.

I do not know this branch but have used another one at Burmarrad which has a very good selection of fresh produce and a fresh meat counter
