Bars/Restaurants in Bugibba/Qwara

We are off to the San Antonio next week for a 5 day break. Can you all recommend some bars and restaurants within walking distance from our hotel that we can try. Dont mind any type of food just looking for ideas. Also we will be there for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and wondered if there was anything going on in Malta to celebrate this. Many thanks.

June: San Antonio is on Tourist Street which has lots of restaurants and bars to suit all tastes/pocket and is close to many other restaurants. My favourites are: Ta Pawla (out of the main hotel entrance and straight across the road). Also Chinese and India restaurants situated virtually across from hotel but cannot remember their names. Incognito (left out of hotel, first right and go straight up to the top of the street and Incognito restaurant is on the left passed its bar which is on the corner. The Overflow (left out of hotel, first right, first left and you will see the Santana Hotel, walk just a little further passed the hotel). Plum Tree (which is next to the Overflow). We 5 (which is on a street near the old Qawra Inn - sure someone will point you in the right direction) . All have reviews on TA.

Enjoy your short break on Malta.

Hi june2306,

The San Antonio is surrounded by bars and restaurants most of who lay on entertainment of either live singers or karaoke. You can start at the begining of Tourist street and work your way along. Recommended bars, in no specific order are, The Elvis Bar, Murphy's Bar, The Tourist Bar(next to the Canifor Hotel), Red Lion, Hanah's Bar, The Tavern, The Plum Tree, The Alex Bar, Incognitos and The George, There are many more in the side roads off Tourist Street. If you like 50's, 60's and 70's music, look out for a singer/guitarist named Tommy Strings. He appears at The Tourist Bar on Wednesdays and Saturdays as well at the Tavern Bar and The Greorge, he's very good. There are some good karaoke bars if you prefer. You can always take the short walk into Bugibba where there is a large selection of bars and restuarants. Have a good holiday.

Thank you all for the replies. We do love 50s and 60s and I have already seen somewhere on here about Tommy Strings so will definitely look him up. Looking forward to getting there now.

June,

Great advice you are given on bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity of San Antonio. Tourist Street is indeed full of bars and restaurants. La Stalla and T'Pawla Mother Earth restaurants are two of the favourites.

Andy yes the Tourist pub has some good karoakee nights, The owners Jools and her husband Charles are also the two of the most hospitable people I met ever met in Malta.

But 5 a minute leisurly walk from the hotel and you will find yourself in Bugibba square which very much the gathering hub of the local and the tourists. And is had that added advantage to litterally be on the sea front.

The bars and restaurants around the square are always buzzing with people. Fat Harry and Mona Vale are just a couple of bars you may want to try. For live music you should try the Grapevine pub restaurants every Friday and Saturday nights. The Grapevine is also a very nice good value restaurant.

Have fun wherever you go.

Cheers

Cas
