What is there to do in Malta?

Hi all,

My family and I are looking at going to Malta.

We have two boys, 6 and 8. What is there to do in Bugibba?

We are looking to travel in th last week of July. We usually go to the canaries but just fancied a change.

Is there loads of places to eat and are they reasonable?

Will we have enough to do?

Thanks,

Emma

Size for size there is more to see and do in Malta than anywhere else in the world.

There is so much history and culture that you won`t see it all if you are there a month !!

Bars, cafes and restaurants are plentifull and range from cheap and cheerfull to top of the range.

Have a read of some of the Q & A at the top of the Malta page ---- plenty of suggestions,

Sure you will have a great time.

Malta is probably the safest place in the Med and Bugibba has plenty of restaurants and eating out is fairly cheap. You are also a short bus ride to Mellieha Bay which is the largest sandy beach on the island.

Another area to consider is Mellieha Bay, this way you would be near a sandy beach rather than the rocky coastline of Bugibba. Depending on your budget there is the Seabank hotel, which is located literally across the road from the beach, it is probably one of the most popular hotels in the area and has just reopened following a major rebuild. http://www.seabankhotel.com/

Mellieha Bay hotel is located on the far side of the bay, this hotel was built in the 70's and has expanded sideways. Very kid friendly and safe, as it is not easy to get to the main road from the hotel without going through reception. Has regular kids clubs, so parents do get the odd rest. Has two sets of pools (one at each end) and it's own small sandy beach. melliehabayhotel.com/melliehabayhotel/home.a…

Also Luna Holiday Complex, more self catering and a bit basic. http://www.lunaholidaycomplexmalta.com/

Mellieha Holiday Centre, again self catering. http://www.mhc.com.mt/the-resort/

In Mellieha village which is about a mile up the hill there is the Maritim Antonine Hotel http://maritim.com.mt, the Solana Hotel http://www.solanahotelmalta.com/ , the Panorama Hotel http://www.panorama-hotel.com/main.htm & the Pergola Hotel http://www.pergolahotel.com.mt/ , a large selection of villas to rent in the Santa Maria Estate, a few touristy shops, a supermarket, several restaurants and a few bars.

A place to consider visiting is Popeye village http://www.popeyemalta.com/

You can also go swimming with Dolphins http://www.marineparkmalta.com/home?l=1

The kids might also enjoy the water park http://www.splashandfun.com.mt/

I am certain there is enough to keep you coming back year after year as we have been doing for over 20 years.

Have a great holiday.

Right ok, loads of good suggestions there. Is the bugibba beach rocky or sandy?

Reading from other forums too am I right in thinking that the buses are reliable and inexpensive?

The beach in Bugibba is mainly rocky but there are some other sandy beaches not far away .

Mellieha bay has the largest beach and is gently shelving and very safe. It`s very popular and there are a few bars to get a drink.

Golden Bay is a smaller beach but again popular.

Both these beaches are easy to reach by omnibus.

A seven day bus ticket costs only 12.00 euros and is great value.

Bugibba is a rocky coastline.

A 7 day bus ticket is €12 for adults and €2.30 for kids and yes they are frequent
