I was camping in Ghajn Tuffieha over the last week and as it was so hot I abandoned the tent and slept outside. Anyway, long story short I now have over 200 sandfly bites (mostly on my arms - I look like a leper) - which is not the most ideal souvenir for an otherwise great trip.

These really are not a thing we have at home and are really, really uncomfortable. I was wondering how long does it take to heal, and whether I should be concerned about laishmaniasis with so many bites? Is that a thing in Malta?

I have read of it and there's an article here;

If you are concerned I suggest you see a doctor or pharmacist at least.

If you have that many bites, see a pharmacist or doctor and get some antibiotic cream - just don't scratch them.

Sandflies are not nice. Keep the bites clean, if anything looks amiss take advice, they can carry nasty stuff. We ran into them on Northern Cyprus.
