We had our booking for a family group of 13 accepted by the owner of New Farmhouse in Gharb, Gozo on 2 Feb. with deposit paid. So flights, car hire & work leave were booked. Yesterday 9th March we requested to check the property out as we were visiting Malta. That evening TripAdvisor emailed that owner cancelled booking as property required repairs; this being March and our visit booked for July! Next comes an email from owner that he was cancelling because of double booking! ?? Besides the farce of conflicting reasons, we are now in the predicament of having 13 people inc babies with a limited choice of accommodation and faced with hiked up prices. So BEWARE because other than a refund of your deposit the customer has no recourse to any financial assistance from either Tripadvisor who charged a penalty of $150 to the owner but passed on nothing to us or the irresponsible owner who tried to be a smart guy and has now lost credibility; his property was still on the website taking reservation up to this morning.
