landing at 2am what should i do

We are going to Qawra on April. unfortunately we will arrive at the airport at 2Am. The hotel is booked and there will be an option to check in the luggage.

will there be any places open in Qawra? are there any places open that time at / near the airport?

thank you for your advice

I would stick around in the airport till about 6 or 7 and then get a bus to Valletta and then to Qawra . If you do not fancy travelling on buses with luggage , get a Maltatransfer coach to the hotel and check in and then start your holiday and get back to the hotel in the evening .

Much safer to stay at the airport then to go to Qawra,at 3 in the morning , if you are not sure that the hotel foyer has comfortable seating . Which hotel shall you be checking into ?

Havent been at the airport early in the morning lately and do not know if the shops will be open at that time :-)

Which hotel are you going to? .. Am I right in presuming that your hotel isn't booked until the "following day" (i.e. after 2pm??)

Hi Scubapro

The PO is arriving early and has only booked the next night and has to wait till 12 or later to book into the Aparthotel which is fully booked, I presume .

As I have said , seeing that it is the Park Lane , I would have a look at the hotel website or the photos on TA of the reception area which is not that large , since it is an Aparthotel . I would spend time at the airport and plan my day after a few hours rest on the airport seating .

It is a bit of a hard night to start the holiday , but I have done it , to avoid paying the extra night .

The reviews give the Park Lane staff some credit and I would contact the management and check if you could be given an early check in and stay on the reception sofa for some time till the sunrise :-) if you decide to go to Qawra early :-)

Phew I suppose that is one of the perks of La Vallette. It is possible to use the lounge on arrival as well as departure.

Only problem with the rest of the airport is that outside the lounge is there anything even resembling a comfortable chair? I am still wracking my brains to give the OP another option.

I have to agree that there are only comfortable chairs at the airport

www.maltairport.com/page.asp?p=17273&l=1

like the blue ones in one of the photos . I suggested that one should stay at the airport , since probably the cafeterias will be open , there is the availablity of toilets , 24 hour ATMs and a pharmacy .The restaurant at the departures lounge has better seating and maybe if open , the one in the central tower on the third floor is better still .

Cannot imagine where to send someone at 3 in the morning , if not there ?

Maybe the PO could hire a car and start the holiday with an early morning tour ??

You may well joke about taking an early morning tour .. the last time I drove down I had brought dive kit with me including some cylinders to store there. Ferries were a little sketchy so I had booked for the following day too.

We arrived at about 12.30am and by the time we cleared customs it was after 1. ... We drove round to Sliema where we sat in a bar and had some snacks and I had a couple of Cokes because of driving. At about 2.30am the bar owner wanted to close and we had planned to nap in the car before meeting up with friends for breakfast where we were going to dump our lugage etc until our room was ready.

I decided that I was wide awake and some exercise would do me good so we drove up to Cirkewwa where I made 2 night dives on the Rozi (the P29 hadn't yet been sunk) ... it was lovely and that bit of a swim was all the help I needed in order to fall soundly asleep in the uncomfortable car :o)

Scubapro mentioned the La Vallette lounge at the airport - that's an option and can be used on arrivals to get light refreshments and it has a comfortable seating area - I assume it would be open (I can't see times on their websites) - it is however 29 euros per person.

I can't think of anywhere else and guess even the bars in Paceville will be closing at that time! The hotel may be able to suggest something. We arrived in Mellieha at that time once but our room was available to check straight into. The Preluna hotel in Sliema lays on refreshments in the lounge for guests arriving/departing early. Not sure if any others, in Qawra, do?
