First Time to Malta

Me and the wife (a couple of old grumps) have never been to Malta. We’d like to travel in September and we would prefer to travel with a recognised travel company and stay in at least 4 star accommodation on half-board basis. We would fly from either Manchester or Liverpool.

We'd prefer to stay somewhere close to the beach with restaurants and taverns near by.

Could someone please advise me of the best locations, hotels and if possible names of Travel Companies which specialise in such holidays.

I think the best places for you to stay would be either Sliema or St Julians. These towns are next to on another and so become almost one place.

Either of these places have a good choice of hotel. There are several nice 4 star hotels such as Preluna or the Waterfront. In St Julians there are some excellent 5 star like Hilton , Mediteranea Hotel , Corrinthia St George or the lovely Hotel Juliani overlooking beautifull Spinola Bay.

The whole area has a large selection of bars and restaurants from top quality dining to cheap cafes and even McDonalds and Pizza Hut.

A long flat promenade runs between St Julians and Sliema and makes a lovely strool

There are several companies that can help you book a holiday.

Google in the following companies .

Chevron Holidays

Mercury Direct

Malta direct

Malta Choice.

These all specialise in Malta and tend to be better than the british High St brands.

Agree with Graham.

For travel companies try:

The best/larger beaches are in the north of the island but the best hotels in these locations are rather isolated. May be best to look for areas of St Julians or Sliema. Both have lots of choice of restaurants.

Enjoy your holiday.

Agree with the postings - you would be better to be more in the centre of things without being too touristy and noisy and Sliema (or St, Julian's ) would suit. These areas are also more accessible to buses to get to other places and have pleasant promande walks as well as bars, restaurants and shops. I prefer the Strand in Sliema (or sometimes called Gzira) because of the area and the views of Valletta. Some hotels have pools, but there are small sandy or rocky beaches within walking distance as well.

Specialist operators as the other posts.

When I go over to Malta I usually book through Booking.com you only pay the hotel when you are leaving and agree staying in Sliema or St Julians see if you can get a good deal on the Juliani or Le Meridian would suit nicely cause I am by nature a grumpy git but love Malta.
