Girls' birthday trip to Malta in January - HELP!!!

A group of 8 ladies (aged 25-50) have booked a flight to Malta end of January for a 50th birthday trip. We are now looking where to stay - could anyone give advice on the best location and hotel?

We are a cultured bunch who like sightseeing, but also eating, drinking and generally relaxing. We would also hope for a night out on the birthday evening.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

St Julians is a resort with everything you require I think. Many bars, restaurants, a beach, great hotels, budget hotels and is ideally situated to explore the rest of the island.

The area of St Julians called Paceville is full of loud bars and clubs. A bit in yer face for some (including me) but handy for a lively night out. This area is, however, easily avoided if it's not quite what you're looking for. Fuegos bar is particularly popular and recommended with music, garden and roof terrace. Hard Rock Cafe is also a favourite with good cocktails.

Spinola Bay area of St Julians has many fine restaurants and bars inlcuding an Irish Bar and is more refined than Paceville and a great place to spend a lunchtime or evening and has Sliema close by which also has many pubs and restaurants.

Hilton Hotel is, as expected, high in quality and service if a little pricey. Rokna hotel is on the same street but much cheaper and decent (excellent pizzas in restuarant) to name but a few

Other popular resorts include Mellieha (large beach, quiet nightlife) Bugibba/Qawra (good amount of bars/restaurants, no beach) and Sliema with its pretty promenade.

Just a very quick guide:

Buggiba / Qawre for a variey of pubs (Many with karokes nights).

Sliema & Valletta for shopping and eating out.

Millieha for wimming / sunbating

Paceville for nighclubbing.

Mosta / Md'ina for culure and sighseeing.

If you base yourslef in Buggiba/Qawra then you would be somewhere in the middle of the road (sort of speak). There are several hotels of all budget. I personally prefer either Canifor Hotel or Buggiba Hotel Complex as there are both reasonably priced.

There are obviously plenty of other areas in Malta that cater for all sort interests. There is also Gozo if you have the time

There are still reports of some theeting problems with the new public transport in Malta. So you need to keep you eye on this forum as sometimes there new posting on the latested situation.

Happy 50th to the lady, and enjoy Malta.

If you are "a cultured bunch", stay away from Buggiba/Qawra......it is very down-market!!

Have a lovely time :-)

Look up Booking.Com for your hotel somewhere like Le Meridian in St Julians two big rooms or an apartement in the Park Hotel Sliema might need two so that you have plenty of fridge room for the Champagne lots of places to eat easy bus routes to Valetta.

The Top Questions on the right should help you out.

St Julians and Sliema are adjoining and have a common Promenade. If you do decide to go to Paceville to celebrate the big event, try and avoid Saturday night. Lots of teenagers descend for a night out there. The older ones turn up at about midnight when, hopefully, the younger ones will have left.
