Malta in 2 days, what to do?

We will travel to Malta at the end of May, arriving on a Saturday at 13h00 and leaving the following Monday very early in the morning.

I know that we will miss a lot since we will stay there for just one and a half day, but hopefully someone could advise on what are the must on the Island. How shold we organise our time there? Better see the villages and skip the blue lagoon or just spend the Whole day of saturday on some nice beach?

Where should we look for accomodation? Valletta? St. Julian? Other area?

Since we will stay there for a very short time, should we rent a car?

Thanks to everyone!

To maximise your time i would hire a car and select an hotel with parking that way you should be able to see a lot of the island. If you chose an hotel in Mellieha you will be close to the nicer beaches and the ferry to Comino for the blue lagoon. Mellieha is split between a nice village which is in an elevated position overlooking the beach area which is about a mile away down the hill.

Alternatively you could stay in Valleta without a car and perhaps take a bus trip to Mdina and hotel dependant spend some time sunbathing at your hotel rather than on a beach. In Vallettta the Phoenecia and Excelsior hotels both have nice pool areas for sunbathing and there is plenty to see in the city for such a short stay.
