sliema for honeymooners?

Hi my partner and I are thinking of staying in sliema for our honeymoon. We will be 23 when we go, will there be things for us to do? Ive noticed a lot of reviews are done by 50+ year olds.

All we want is a relaxing holiday with the facility to go on a few days trips and reasonable priced food.

If we do 2 weeks bed and breakfast, approximately how much spending money do you think we will need? just for food and drink. we will take extra for day trips etc.

Ive also noticed there doesnt seem to be many places to sunbathe e.g. beach.

You will find there is a lot to do and see in Malta. I spend a lot of time there and still find things of interest.

Sliema is a lovely town with lots of choice of eating places and bars.

You are quite right in saying that Sliema does not have a proper beach but there is a nice promenade with a great waterfront from which boat cruises run.

St. Julans the clubbing part of Malta is only a short distance away, only 30 minutes away by walk.

Valletta is 15 minutes away on the regular inexpensive bus.

If you want to go to a beach, Golden Bay and Mellieha Bay are only 40 minutes by bus.

As for how much money you need- that is a very difficult one. I tend to eat in cafes used by locals and this is much cheaper. Drinks can vary so much, a beer in some bars can be 1.20 euros a pint but can be 3 times this in a posh hotel.

Hope to have been of some help.

Anything else just ask.

Hi, Sliema is a great base for a holiday in Malta as everything is close by. You are on a bus route to Valletta, St Julian's and beyond. There are many direct bus routes from Sliema thus avoiding having to go to Valletta and changing buses there.

Lots of hotels, cafes, bars, restaurants and shops. Lovely promenade all along the Sliema and St Julian's seafront. Sliema runs into St Julian's and then on to Paceville for any nightlife you might fancy.

You can get a ferry across to Valletta from the Sliema ferries area as well as harbour trips and trips further afield like to Comino.

Plenty of places to sunbathe too. Beach all along the Sliema seafront though rocky not sandy. The rocks are pretty smooth and you can swim from these beaches without any problem as there are ladders into the sea. If you prefer sandy beaches then there is a small one at ST George's Bay (just beyond ST Julian's) or hop on a bus to Mellieha

First of all let's clear what you mean by 'beach'. Sliema has a long beach but it is not sandy. It's limestone and has smooth areas where you can sunbathe. There are also various beach clubs with loungers and Water Polo clubs with large pools and all amenities.

There are direct buses to the popular sandy beaches and there is a small sandy beach in nearby St Georges Bay.

What month will you be coming ?

Have a look at the Top Question - top right - there is an article describing Sliema .

www.visitmalta.com (e=brochures and downloads) and a good interactive map , www.supercities.eu and www.heartofmalta.com all have video clips of various locations and of the larger hotels.
