There are places to eat and a few shops but I am not sure there is enough to keep you amused for a several hours.

The hotel will have a luggage storeroom so why not leave your cases there and getting a taxi to the airport later spending a few hours in the resort.

Check out early from the hotel and enjoy the day . Leave the bags at the hotel storeroom with the reception and have a taxi wait for you at 5 in the afternoon at the hotel to make your flight .

You can have a full day out , and lots of churches to see on that day before you leave . Why waste the day at the airport ????

Take care and happy holidays

PS the airport website www.matairport.com

Enough shops and places to eat , even a pharmacy !

Landside there are only a few shops and a couple of places to eat, airside has a better selection:

Airport shops www.maltairport.com/page.asp?p=17214&proid=39

Mind you this airport is 100 times better than the original one used to be.

You do not say where you are staying, a lot of hotels will store your cases after you have had to vacate the room and let you use all the facilities. Some hotels like the Radisson have showers that you can use after you have vacated the room, others like the Mellieha Bay Hotel will sometimes let you keep your room or use a spare room for an additional charge.

last year we went up to St.Pauls Bay my wife have a few beers and lunch up there and we hopped the bus back to hotel to pick up the bags but if you are worried take a short trip down to St Georges Bay get the rest of the sun and several bars and restaurants for lunchand come back to the hotel as 643 says and you will be ok.
