My Malta Review

Well, I have been back since Sunday and am over my jet lag and have everything unpacked and washed. I first want to thank all of you who helped me so much and tolerated my many many questions!

We arrived Friday, July 6th and used resorthopper for our transportation to and from the hotel. They were right there waiting for us and very pleasant and informative. We stayed at the Radisson Blu Sands Golden Bay which is a way out from the central part of Malta but I enjoyed the quietness and the landscape was absolutely stunning. The hotel is on one of the best, if not the best beach on the Island. The water temperature had to be 88-90.

It was extremely hot there (over 100 which I did not realize, getting to 107 one day). Because of this, our sight seeing was left mostly to night time. We ate at Apple' s Eye a few times which is near the hotel. One night we went into Mosta and ate at the restaurant Ta' Marija. It was very good and we both had stewed rabbit. We liked the rabbit but found the bones annoying. Excellent restaurant.

In Mosta is the big church which was hit by a bomb that did not explode with 300 people inside. We only got to see the outside of the church as it was nighttime. The church is vast and stunning.

Another night we went into Mellihea and at at The Arches. By far the best restaurant we ate at. Superb food, a little pricier than other restaurants but a very high class restaurant. We found the prices actually lower than here in the states and you got more than your money's worth. We really liked Mellihea and it's surroundings. In Bugibba, we walked around, even visiting the casino there. We ate at a small Italian restaurant where I had a pizza and my husband had octopus salad and ribs. Everywhere we went the food was delicious.

We took the bus there and the driver of the last bus decided he didnt want to do the last run so we stood at the bus stop and after waiting quite awhile spoke to the man at the bus station and he was able to get us a bus but we had waited over an hour.

We went to Marsoxlokk for the open market which was fun and interesting. It was extremely hot so after an hour and a half or more we were ready to leave. The fishing boats were something else!

In Valetta, we saw ST. John's Cathedral which was beautiful and very interesting. Our last night we ate in Mdina.

We loved Malta and the people. It seems to be one of the safest, if not the safest place in Europe. The architecture, the landscape, the churches are so beautiful. We absolutely loved every minute of our time there and met some wonderful people from England. The only negative I could say was we did have some extremely rude people on the plane from Rome. No manners and they run past you on the plane without letting you go, they push past you and could knock you down and not look back. I have to say I was astounded by their rudeness. We are definitely looking forward to going back again some day.

No, no, siggie, the gold medal for queue jumpers must be given to the Russians.

Hi Nancy very good trip report, yes & the heat in mid July can be very hot indeed and you are so right, very very safe and Golden Bay is the best beach (other than Ramla on Gozo) . I agree with all the comments, but just to add, such reviews get even seasoned old Malta nuts like me wanting to get back on the plane again very soon.

The clue to the climate is when you fly low over the island and notice there are no pitched roofs.

Cheers

Hi NTD, we were in Napoli for a few days recently and used the bus and train to get around, judging by the bruises caused by pointy elbows in ques our Italian cousins are still at a very high standard, and yes I agree that Nancy wrote a good report.

Thanks for your nice review on Malta. I am looking forqard to take my family there next month and it was quite nice to note that in spite of the heat you were able to roam around a lot of places.

I would want to step in and say that the last part of your review was probably misplaced. It might have annoyed you surely but its probably unfair to extrapolate the behaviour of some people to "italians" in general. I am not an Italian but the moment you mention Rome in an international forum, things become slightly touchy. Hope that makes sense....

I didn't say they were necessarily Italians. I was very careful there. Only mentioned that when we touched down in Malta on our plane from Rome that people, especially men, barged forward and would not allow others out ahead of them which I found extremely rude. Many planes land in Rome for the layover. Could have been any nationality:+) Thanks for the warning anyway!

Hi Nancy

I've been guilty of that a few times in the past. In my case its generally caused by a late arrival and having a pre-booked bus to catch and knowing that you need to get to the bus as soon as possible. Others without the urgency can't understand why I'm rushing, although I try not to be rude whilst doing this. maybe they think we all have to wait anyway to pick up our bags, but I only fly with hand luggage.

Cheers
