Where to stay

Hi myself and my husband are thinking of going to cyprus in August but we dont know which resort to go to. We would like a hotel on a sandy beach and dont mind a bit of walk into the town but not the younger crowd as we are in out late 40s. We like somewhere with restaurants and pubs. Any ideas about what resorts or hotels would be appreciated.

Sounds like most resorts would suit you. The Eastern side of the island has the best beaches but having said that the Amathus area of Limassol have some nice hotels directly on the beach, albeit black sand. Paphos has some nice hotels but the beaches are a bit more rocky in general. You will find that most places have a good selection of restaurants and bars.

Maybe if you narrow it down a bit we can give you some more specific advice.

Thank you for that.

Maybe the east coast would be better as the beaches are better. What about protaras

The beachfront hotels in Protaras and Ayia Napa most definitely have much better stretches of beach than the Paphos hotels(can't speak for Limassol as never been). However, some of the hotels on the main hotel drag in Paphos do have a half decent beach to allow at least a dip to cool off and sunbathing next to the sea. They tend to be man made and each hotel has it's own piece of beach whereas Protaras is more or less one stretch of beach which is open to everyone, not just for the hotels. The advantage of the Paphos hotels therefore is they are much less busy as they are used by hotel guests only. Paphos is a much bigger resort so there tends not to be the same familiarity that you get with Protaras.Unless of course you are happy to find a bar you are happy with which you can visit every night.Almost all the bars and restaurants are situated in and around the main tourist street in Protaras.Paphos does have many bars and restaurants right along the main hotel road into the harbour area but also has many more tucked away up side streets and back streets. Both resorts would probably suit your needs, both have pros and cons so it's just really finding a hotel that takes your fancy.Be careful if looking at Paphos hotels, most brochures class some hotels in the Paphos area as Paphos itself but cam be literally miles away from the town itself. To a certain extent the same can be said for a few Protaras hotels as well.

Thanks.

We would prefer the longer beach. I suppose its just where to stay now. Anyone any ideas we would like a 4 or 5 star hotel.

Have a look on the Protaras forum in the hotel section. I am sure Kath or Cypruseaview will be able to help you.
