4 day trip - Around Cyprus

Hi,

We have booked our flight/hotels for honeymoon in Cyprus from 8-11th August. Planning to get a car (rent) from Larnaca Airport to drive upto Polis for our hotel stay there till 10th August and then a one day stay in Limassol.

What's the travel time from larnaca to polis if we take the northern route? through nicosia. is the scenery better than southern route?

Thanks,

Larnaca to Polis essentially you can do various routes

Go to Nicosia on the motorway, at junction 3 follow signs to Troodos that lead to the A9 which becomes the B9 which you follow towards Troodos, it is built up until Astromeritis where you filter left at the lights again signed Troodos. You go through countryside until you eventually pass a petrol station on the left, shortly after there is a junction to the right signed Kykkos and the Marathassa Valley follow that up into the mountains until you see a route that looks that it goes towards Polis, I have done it but just followed a map. Superb scenery long curvy roads. You are restricted from any direct route as you close to the North at many points. Depending where you find the North coast you may have to take a long diversion around a Turkish Cypriot enclave. A good few hours driving in a remote part of Cyprus.

Or go to Limassol on the motorway to the West of Limassol just at the end of a large viaduct there is a junction with 3 choices

1 Straight on Motorway to Pathos follow signs to Polis, quickest around 3 hours. Boring.

2 Exit to Episkopi take first junction left, at T junction turn right to next T junction and turn right and follow coast road past Kourion, Pissouri, Aphrodites Bithplace and around Pathos Airport join motorway to Pathos and to Polis. Suggest 4 hours without too many stops and good scenery once off B9.

3 Exit as above take first left then at first T junction go left and you now go Omodos, Platres, Troodos, Kykkos and then reach Polis as in the Nicosia route. A long drive and great scenery.

Be aware petrol stations are not that available after leaving main areas, my spelling may somewhat optional.

Thank you Fred.. you have explained the directions well.

we are keen on taking either option of larnaca to polis (via north) or option 3 of larnaca to limassol to polis. what are the approx travel time for these 2 routes? plus are there sufficient gas station on these routes.

Because of the size of Cyprus if you start with a full tank then no problems, time I would think around 4 to 5 hours, the last part of each route is the same, when I have done them I have just wandered along if in doubt turn downhill and towards the NW so no real plan.

Are you sure you won't be tired to do all this driving just following your landing to Larnaca? Could you change plans? Possibly do the 1 day stop in Limassol on arrival and then do any of the routs described by Fred on departure from the island.
