Best place to stay in Cyprus

We are a middle aged Australian couple who are Flying to Cyprus end of September 2014. We want a place to stay that has beaches, and is only a walk to restaurants and shops. Preferably not too full of brits or teens, but can cope if that is not possible. Would appreciate any advice. Probably will stay for a week .

Thanks

No one can tell you the best place for you, only you can decide that. People can tell you what they like or what is best for them and then you need to research.

Are you flying to Larnaca ?

If so you are closest to the resorts on the East coast. You could stay in Larnaca or choose one of the other resorts on the east coast, such as Protaras or Pernera but you'll have to see if they would suit you by finding out more about them. Expect several Brits - it's a popular destination - but less children around at the end of September.

I agree with Latimer if beaches are important to you then the Eastern side of the island has the best beaches. If you are like to get out and about and are interested in the ancient sites and culture then Limassol might be better for you as it is within easy reach of most major sites. Paphos has a lot of the ancient sites on its doorstep but it is a resort that is popular with Brits.

Be warned should you decided upon Limassol it is very large sprawling working town and the coast road is some 16K long so you will find some areas slightly better than others. Having said that some areas are very pleasant and there is a very nice beach path along a good part of the coast. The old town is nice but most of the accommodation is well away from the town.

You may prefer somewhere smaller and quieter such as Pissouri but it does have a part pebbly beach.

Paphos has a nice harbour area and as I said is close to the mosaics and the Tomb of the Kings most of its beaches are rocky.

It all depends what you are looking for. September is a great time to go to Cyprus the weather is really good but has lost the intense heat of high summer.
