When looking for information about Sweetwater bay I couldn't find much on TA so I hope this holiday report helps.
Sweetwater Bay is a lovely complex, a mix of apartments and houses. It is well laid out with lots of gardens which are well looked after, several pools although the ‘indoor’ pool is just the end of a bigger pool which is under cover. There is a gym and tennis courts but you have to bring your own equipment to play tennis. It also has it’s own beach but that is a stony beach down a very rough path.
We rented a penthouse apartment via owners direct and had 2 very good weeks there.
We had looked at several apartments in the Kyrenia area on owners direct and some of them were on the Turtle bay complex. We stopped there one day and had a walk around and decided that we had made the right choice as long as you don’t mind being further away from everywhere.
You do need a hire car for Sweetwater bay as it is the furthest complex away from Kyrenia (approx 40km) but there are lots of restaurants along the road between Tatlisu & Esentepe as well as many in the village of Esentepe. Our favourites were Remzi’s in the village of Esentepe – park in the main square and they have an upstairs restaurant and roof terrace. Very good cheap home made food run by a very nice family. Our other favourite was Joya which is on one of the other complexes before you get to Esentepe. Both coped well with vegetarians. Jashrans is also good if you like Indian food.
Big supermarkets are near Kyrenia although there are 2 smaller ones in Tatlisu for basics and a slightly bigger one on the road before Esentepe. For drinking water you have to use a large 19ltr bottle which you can replace at all supermarkets, just take the empty one to get a replacement, for 5 lira or you can take the empty bottle up into the village of Tatlisu and a man refills it for you and seals it for 2 lira.
We flew Easy Jet to Larnaca and arranged transfers & car hire with Pacific car hire which went very smoothly. You fill in a white visa slip which is stamped instead of the passport.
Our hire car was ok but it did break down on our way home one night, we just about managed to make it to Joya restaurant and they were very helpful in talking to Pacific car hire until an English speaking person was found. It is the first hire car we have ever had that has broken down but Pacific replaced it that evening asap. The replacement was in better condition and had a bit more go in it than the first car.
But no real problems.
We did some driving around the North and found a nice beach just along the road from us by some nice wooden beach properties we think were for hire and a good restaurant. A bed and cushion were 3 T lira to hire for the day per person. Sandy beach and gentle, shallow waters.
We visited the 3 castles, Kantara, St Hilarion & Buffenvento which are worth the walks up from the car parks. We also drove up to the end of the Karpas peninsula and had lunch at Golden beach but it was a day of great thunderstorms so we didn’t get to the very end. We did see donkeys.
We went in October and it was a bit barren but I think spring would be a very nice time of year to visit. Overall we had a very good holiday.
Weather was mixed with a very hot and sunny week and a week with thunder storms, hail storm, rain and sun but it only stopped us from having an evening meal in kyrenia Harbour.
