Advice on changing money please.

Hi, trying to work out if it's best to get euros in cash before we travel or get a euro pre paid card or change locally in Polis, any advice would be very welcome. Thanks.

You will need to watch the currency rates and can get a daily alert from an online site like Forex.

Then you can see if the £ is going up or down against the Euro. If it's going down but your euros in the UK and if it's going up wait until you get to Cyprus.

In all honesty the difference is minimal unless you are changing thousands - I don't bother with a pre loaded card but just bring some euros and then use an ATM if I need any more

Thanks for your prompt response Latimer. How much do you get charged for using ATM's? Thanks.

We've been using a pre-paid card for many years...........before they became as popular as they are now. The top 2 cards give some excellent rates and no dreaded ATM charges unlike debit cards abroad........the charges are dependent on your bank. Plus you money is protected and you can reload with an internet connection should you require more.

Take the option of a dual card for extra security should anything happen to the card.

We take enough € to get us started and the Caxton FX and Fair FX card dependent on where we're travelling in the world and we got a UKash card this summer as it was top of the leader board despite being new to this market.

Thanks for all the info Miss_Chief1.

What charges do you incur if you have money left on your pre paid euro card on your return and want it back in your bank a/c?

Thanks again.

You just use the card & withdraw it from an ATM in the UK......no charges

Thanks again Miss_Chief1.

Have ordered a Caxton FX pre-paid Euro card; seems to be the best all round card, very good rate, no losing out (as you do with cash) if you have any left on the card on returning home and it's a safer and easier than carrying cash. Only minor down side with the Caxton card is you have to buy a secondary card, most others provide free.

Thanks for all the advice.
