Omodos

Our Eastern Med cruise in Dec will stop in Limassol for a day. I've gone through the cruise's shore excursions ptions and Omodos seems to be an interesting place. I'm considering a trip that combines Kourion, Temple of Apollo and Omodos. Has anyone done this tour? Any feedback or better suggestions/

I have not done the escortd tour, but have visited many times. You will not be dissapointed, they all offer a good flavour of Cyprus away from the crowds.

I second Leica's comment, mother.

Omodos is a lovely village and every time I'm in the area I visit for a coffee and to buy the local, yeast-free bread.

What's koullouri in English, Leica?

Sounds a lovely excursion combining two excursions which I have made many times. A lovely mixture of ancient sites and Cypriot culture.

Omodos I preferred before it got as tourist minded but I still like it.

It is good to do it with a guide especially at Kourion and Temple of Apollo. Enjoy your cruise and I hope you will love Cyprus as I do.

leica, GDane, do you suggest that we should try the koullouri (seeded Bagel)? What is it? A bread with nuts?

cypriotpal, I sure hope that it'll be a good trip. I so looking forward to it. My husband thinks i'm crazy to plan to early! We'll be taking my parents and 3 kids on the cruise. My parents have never been on a cruise and I so want them to have a chance to enjoy the experience while they are still healthy and able to move about easily.

DNLs mum, I was only commenting on the english translation for koullouri.

Because I have a yeast intolerance, as an alternative to yeast products I buy "arkateno" bread which is made using the froth of boiled cheekpeas. The best arkateno is made in Omodos by a lady called Photini. Her shop is near the parking lot if you want to try something different or you want to make a present to a friend with the same problem.

You can get it fresh, which won't keep for long, or crispy which will be OK for months.

Omodhos is a lovely little village, very pretty. Most of the excursions take in the "oldest wine press on the island" (aparrently). When I was last there we were invited in by a little old lady who had turned her house into a sort of museum, with ancient fanily clothes, documents and relics. You had to pay £1 to leave though unless you wanted to buy something off her!

Curium is one of my favourite places and I've spent hours there looking at the ruins. Most of the tours only take in the amphitheatre and the baths of Dionysos (?) so you may not get to see the whole reuined town and Many tours also do not take in the santuary of Apolo down the road.

As well as the historical bits, the views from Curium are simply stunning as it is perched on a hilltop with a lovely beach and fields below
