Driving in Cyprus

Hi, apart from my driving license and valid insurance, is there any other documentation I need to drive in Cyprus? A friend mentioned that some kind of permit is also needed, but I've not heard of this.

Thanks

No the documents you mention are plenty for the South of the Island.

Make sure you're given a map.

But just in case you're not, take a copy of Lonely Planet, Rough Guide or the like, to help find your way around.

Drive defensively, and expect the unexpected.

You will only need your EU valid licence and insurance. To drive to the TRNC is you wanted to would cost you €20 at the border checkpoint as insurance.

Watch out for people not using indicators and running red lights - police cars included in that! The roads are fine, but there is a big enough minority of drivers to warrant taking a little extra time to make decisions.

Both parts of license required by company I have used recently. I.e. card and written document. I found the roads quieter than uk.

Oh, can someone tell me if the road signs/sign posts are in phonetic alphabet or greek alphabet?

most signs are in both Greek and English. Some carhire firms offer extra insurance cover to cover the underside of car, wheels etc which typically may not be covered on standard cdw.
