Visit to cyprus for February 2012

Hello

We are Brit expats living and working here in Saudi Arabia - we need advice on what the weather will be like during February 2012 - it is now our winter here in Saudi Arabia so we are enjoying the cooler days albeit still around 25 to 30 some days and then dropping at night around 10 to 15 - so what can we expect the weather to be? i.e. how cold - rain we do not mind at all just looking for somewhere to really relax and also looking for a very good quality hotel or high quality self catering - not intersted at all in huge complexes or resorts and we are not into the wild evening life - but we are desperate for a relaxing break.

We do like to play golf, tennis, pilates and yoga and walking.

Anyone out there can help us we would be most grateful.

We think there could be somewhere special to stay in the Troodos mountains but it was so long ago we visited Cyprus we simply cannot remember. However we are very much open to any other parts of Cyprus.

Would appreciate all the help anyone can give us.

Thanks to you all on the forum.

Kind Regards

The weather in February isn't likely to be great although you should get some sunshine. When we have been in February we have experienced wind, rain and sun all in one day. We did find that we could sit in the sun in the middle of the day in a sheltered spot on most days. The evenings are still chilly. It is pretty hard to predict but it will be cooler than where you are.

As for hotels there are many lovely hotels in Cyprus. You mention Yoga and Golf and this makes me think of http://www.aasparesort.com/index.html (this website is being redesigned at the moment but it may be somewhere that would appeal to you for relaxation. You may like the Anassa as it iwould be close to golf .

If I was recommending hotels in Paphos I would recommend the Amathus Beach or the Elysium and in Limassol the Four Seasons or the Amathus Beach.

However if you want to stay in Troodos I think Fred is the man with the answers. He is the DE for Troodos and lives there. He knows more than any of us. I am sure he will be along soon.

I hope you find what you are looking for.

Weather in Cyprus is usually variable from place to place at the same time as it is a small island with rather large mountain areas. So in February I expect that there will be snow on top of Troodos, in a good year enough so that skiing will be available. At the coast it could well be very warm during the day, in the sun and out of the wind, or it could be wet. People will be swimming in the sea, but they are brave or ? The nights will be cold wherever you are. I have full central heating with the main source of heat is my log burning stove but I do live at around 600 metres.

I do not know of any very high quality hotels on Troodos, you could look at Platres Forest Park or The Mill at Kakopetria but the top hotels are by the coast. The golf courses I know of are are down near the coast, good walks are available in many localities but the higher you go the chances of bad weather will rise, and I do mean bad weather at the top of Troodos.

So for hotels you have recommendations and self catering http://www.agrotourism.com.cy/

My visitor from Egypt will be hoping that there is snow for Christmas but she also gets excited with the rain, probably a touch of the sun!

Hello to you all especially Fred

Sorry I have not replied until now but we have found a really nice villa in Miliou - it has great reviews on Trip Advisor and so we are at the moment going to book it for March for one week and then July and August for 2 months and in fact tagging on another week in September.

The main reason is that my husband will join me for the first 3 weeks and then he must return I need to get on with my first book as I have a deadline and so I will be left in peace to hopefully finish it - but also I simply love my own company and I feel this villa will cross all the boxes - this has been a difficult decision to make and I truly appreciate all of your advice and help on this forum - a great forum it is.

Fred please do keep in contact for we would love to meet up with you and take you to lunch - it would be our sincere pleasure and yes we understand about your friend visiting you over Christmas from Egypt wishing rain or even snow that is how we feel too. Fred I will send to you a private message with our contact details.

This is not going to be a cheap vacation for sure but it is our 35th wedding anniversary and my husband's special 50th birthday and my own special birthday in Augusut so we have a lot to celebrate.

The other reason why we chose the area is we have access to the mountains and to nature etc but I will be nearby for my yoga and pilates classes as well - this villa is surrounded by countryside and is well away from the lively tourist side which we simply hate.

We promise to bring to this forum our observations and descriptions after our visit to Cypris in March it will be our pleasure.

Our sincere thanks in the meantime to you all.

Kind Regards

Hello yes in fact we were childhood sweethearts but we married when I was 18 and he was 20 so I guess I may have wrong calculations but never mind as we are both still very much in love since the day we met.

Looking forward to our long vacation in Cyprus.

Kind Regards
