Best restaurants to watch the Monaco Grand Prix 2011

My flights are booked, my hotel is booked, even the helicopter journey from Monaco to Nice is booked - I just need to sort the hospitality for the Sunday and the main event!! I am looking for a good / nice restaurant with good viewing, nice food etc for myself & my husband. It's a surprise for his 40th Birthday - already spent a fortune but willing to spend up to £500/800 each if necessary but no more ideally - would prefer inclusive bar option but not life or death. Any help, assistance, guidance would be appreciated. Looked at lots of websites now and loosing the will to live!!!!!

For a view with food, I'd go for somewhere like the Port Palace rooftop restaurant (Mandarine), the Cafe de Paris Salon Bellevue (on the roof, not at street level), or the Botticelli (not usually recommended for food, but has a good location for the GP).

If you're really into seeing the race, then the restaurant options tend to be limited, as most don't have terraces high enough for a decent view, and many will be crammed with people.

Another alternative is to look around for a private terrace with food and open bar.

You will not get a good view on the Sun for £500. I would go for La Dolce Vita on the S/F straight for a good close up view.

Cafe De Paris is fine if you get to view from the top terrace otherwise the view is really bad.

Top of the cafe de paris - you can get full hospitality on thusday practise day for around EUR120- usually fully booked out by Philip Morris on the sat/sun.....dont bother with the street level view at the cafe de paris..you are basically paying through the nose to watch it on TV, and if you are going to do that, theres lots of other bars around the circuit which are just as good for half the price....for a good package, try the Miramar hotel- sat quali for around EUR 500 per person....you wont get much change out of 1000 for race day if you want the hospitality tho....

have fun-its truely amazing !!

Hi there

My friend and I will be travelling to Monaco to watch the race on Sunday 29 May 2011.

We are on a budget but would like to experience Monaco race day on Sunday. Are all the bars and restaurants along the course pre-booked?

If not, could anyone recommend a bar, restaurant or even hotel bar that we can have dinner / drinks in, it does not have to be fancy, or even have a great view, really just want to experience the party atmosphere without paying through the nose.

I hope we are not being a bit naïve by thinking this maybe possible.

Many thanks

Hi Chippo

Thank-you for your response!

Are there no cafe's or even Starbucks along the course, they are everywhere!!! I know I am clutching at straw's.

But I was under the impression that as the Grand Prix ran through the streets of Monaco, people could watch for free along the road side, a bit like the Royal Wedding?

They cannot block the view from all the roads that they will be racing down?

If all else fails, is it better for me to watch in on the Saturday instead of the Sunday?

There are cafes but all will be closed off or have private grandstands in them. You cannot see from the streets , they are all closed off and barried.

If I were you either go on Sat or Thursday. Thurs will give you 3 hours of F1 cars, be cheaper , less busy and you could then do a cafe on the S/F straight for about 70 euros inc lunch etc.
