Night Out- Where to go?

My friend and I shall be celebrating our birthdays with 4 other friends. We are leaving our husbands behind and plan to treat ourselves to 4 days in Monaco.

We really are not sure what to do in the evenings, but we are sure that on one evening we want to go to a nightclub? With the exception of me our age group is late 30's. Where do you recommend? We had thought of Jimmys but saw alot of negative reviews so not sure. We want a good atmosphere and not feel too old either!!

Any other recommendations for the other evenings would be welcome. We also want to spend one evening in a good restaurant with sea views.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi Nikki

Jimmy'z is not to everyones taste - some love it, some hate it!

There are lots of bars/clubs to enjoy late - where are you staying? In Monaco? There is lots going on in Monaco throughout the year... circus festival, arts, exhibitions, rally, F1, basketball, kickboxing, orchestras, theatre, sailing, show jumping, yachting, comedy festival etc. etc.

In no particular order:

La Rascasse & Brasserie de Monaco are open late and are in the port/harbour area.

Sass Cafe is fun.

The American Bar at the Hotel de Paris is fun but expensive as is the Cafe de Paris.

You could visit the Casino, you don't have to gamble but do take your passport and expect to pay around 10€ or so to get in (I don't remember if they charge outwith the Monaco Grand Prix but can't see why they wouldn't).

La Rose des Vents is a nice restaurant on the sea front although I haven't eaten there for a few months so best to check tripadvisor etc for up to date reviews in case anything has changed.

Mandarine is a Michelin star restaurant atop the Port Palace hotel in the main harbour.

Le Grill at the Hotel de Paris on the rooftop and depending when you go they may have the roof open, you would need to specifically book a window table to overlook the harbour/sea.

There are lots of restaurants in the Fontvielle district also overlooking the smaller port/harbour in Monaco and there are several restaurants along the coast.

I hope that helps.

Hi Ed,

Many thanks for your detailed post. Alot of good info.

We will be either travelling in Sep, can't quite agree which month, or hotel at the moment. A few of us want the Hermitage and the others want the Meridien because of the beach. I want the Hermitage!!

I was in Monaco last year only for a day, we were staying in Villefranche, we went to the Mandarin, I enjoyed it but glad to get other recommendations. I'm going again this June but really looking forward to girls only trip, probably pushing it a bit with the word girls though!!

Thanks again, I'll message you for your pack if thats ok.

My pleasure Nikki, happy to help.

I'll wait on your message and send you the info pack/PDF also.

Hermitage and Meridien...very different hotels. Have you looked at the Monte Carlo Bay? Right next to Meridien, part of SBM group (same as Hermitage and Hotel de Paris) which means you automatically get access to the Thermes spa - check that out on the Hermitage/SBM/Monte Carlo Bay websites, that might be something you girls :) enjoy. For info the monte carlo bay comes out top (over meridien) on feedback over the past few years from our monaco grand prix guests.

6. Re: Night Out- Where to go?

Given the description of your group, I'd not recommend Jimmy'z or Sass. They are both ultra expensive, and the clientele tends towards rich older guys with very young models on their arms. Two places that Ed didn't mention are Zelos (http://maboum.com/zelos) in the beach area, and Black Legend (http://maboum.com/black-legend) in the port area, close to Rascasse and Brasserie de Monaco. There's also Life Club at Ni Box.

The port area also has the bar Before, and a restaurant called Virage, which doesn't quite overlook the sea, but has a view of the yachts in the port. Two other restaurants with views are Chaumiere, which is up at the Jardin Exotique and has a view over Monaco, and the Saint Benoit (fish specialities), but you'll have to book and ask for a table on the terrace.

Things tend to change in Monaco tho' and where may be trendy right now, may be less so in a few months. If you're hoping to come in September, be aware that the Yacht Show is provisionally scheduled for 25-28th Sep. They'll be erecting the stands the week before, which means that access to the sunny terraces around the port will be limited.

Enjoy yourselves.

Hi Monacocabbie,

Thanks for the extra info.

I did wonder if we were too old for Jimmys, the cost side of it wasn't an issue, its just the age issue, we didn't want to feel completely out of place!

Mind you saying that, as we like people watching, it could be the place for us!!

Thanks again.

Hi NikkiJ

If you treat the experience as people watching, you won't be disappointed wherever you go in Monaco. We once spent a memorable evening in the American Bar of the Hotel de Paris. There was a jazz band playing live (the reason we went), but by far the most entertainment was from watching the people who were in there, especially towards the end of the night.

Enjoy your stay!
