Cruise visit during Grand Prix

Hello, I will be on a cruise that is visiting Monte Carlo on May 21, 2015, which believe maybe during the GP race calendar. I have visited before and I know the race track is through the town - can anyone tell me how this might affect the day? Ideally we'd like to walk around the town and visit the casino etc - will this be possible? I am thinking because tickets are sold for the event there will be some restrictions getting around. p.s. I am not adverse to seeing some of the race!

It's quite rare for a cruise ship actually to be in port, often cruises relocate to Villefranche during the Grand Prix, because of the difficulty of access. It will not be possible to walk around the town in the accepted sense of the word, but it is business as usual on the Rocher - the more historic part of Monaco - and the beach. Visiting the Casino will not be possible until after the road reopens at about 7pm.

You will be arriving on practice day, no actual F1 race to see, but it is still quite exciting to be here then and grandstand tickets are (relatively) cheap on the Thursday. Another plus is that Thursday tickets are never sold out, so you can decide at the last minute whether or not you want to see any of the practice sessions (F1, GP2, Renault and Porsche) and the GP2 qualifying usually held in the afternoon.

As always, excellent counsel from Moth.

Don't plan on your ship actually going to Monaco. As mentioned, it will likely go to the tender port of Villefranche....about a 20 minute train trip to Monaco. The trains run "commuter style" every half hour or so.
