scenic route

Hi

We are landing in Vienna on Saturday morning & have planned to do a driving trip: Vienna - Salzburg

Salz - Innsbruck ; Inns - Munich ; Munich - Salzburg in a week.

1. What are the reccommended scenic routes & reccommended stopovers.

2. How is the traffic in these cities, considering that we will be coming in from Asia (new to the cities & Non English signs & directions) and that we will be entering into the city to find our hotels. Are there some time zones with leaner traffic that we could choose.

3. Any reccommended stopovers en route ?

4. Any reccommendation of nice home stays/ farm houses .. off the beaten track.

As your time is very limited, I'd take motorways which enable the fastest transportation. Traffic in most cities is horrible and parking can be a nightmare too. I'd frankly rely on trains as you only intend to visit cities and connections are pretty good between these places. You can purchase a train ticket from Vienna throughout Innsbruck and stop in Salzburg as this is allowed by the general terms and conditions of Austrian Railways ÖBB. Moreover you would save a lot of money as the price (€ per km) goes down the farther you travel.
