Change Plans Due to Flooding?

I am striking out! I am in Amsterdam and need to get to Zurich eventually. Originally thought about Turkey (Istanbul), but that's out. So I booked a flight to Budapest (via Warsaw overnight). The plan was to go to Budapest - Vienna - Salzburg - Zurich. I have hotels booked using points in Vienna. I thought about heading to Bratislava for a day trip and also to Melk Abbey.

I should be in Vienna by Sunday. Given the flooding problems I am thinking of cancelling Salzburg (I was so looking forward to that ride through the Alps to Zurich) and instead heading down to Slovenia and then back up to Zurich.

I was also thinking of shortening Vienna by a day since I read that Melk has flooding problems.

I can't imagine things exponentially improving by Sunday/Monday along the Danube. Am I wrong? Or would it be better to go with my plan B (shorten Vienna and head to Slovenia)?

Any problems getting to Bratislava right now (via train, since I'm assuming the hydrofoils may be a problem)? Or between Budapest & Vienna?

Personally, I think Slovenia is heaven on earth so I wouldn't be too disappointed.

Thanks Cherries. I don't have a lot of time and am sort of just doing some drive-by traveling (quick glances at cities and hoping to come back later). Trying to figure out how much extra time Slovenia adds to travel....seems like a really long train ride between Ljubljana and Zurich, but maybe a cheap flight?

Either that or I just stay put in Vienna...try to add an extra night and do the train from Vienna to Zurich.

Well, I added an extra night to my Vienna hotel reservation (using points) and will cancel Salzburg. I'll just veg out in Vienna and try to do a day trip to a non-flooded area. Maybe the river will recede a bit by the end of the week!

There is not really any city close by which is not effected by floods. Enjoy another day in Vienna

I am sure you will find something to see and do here

Can anyone confirm if there are rail lines open between Bratislava and Vienna?

Was hoping to leave on Wednesday and then head to Linz?

Seems i may be going in the wrong direction but any updates would be great.

I have found this link for the rail network but unfortunately no English?

Bratislava and Linz have big flood problems.

But there is no information about Bratislava on this page.

Vertical - Is the twin city liner the train service? I am very flexible, but was hoping to see Bratislava. Hopefully things will improve by early next week! I will continue to obsessively check the news.

Bridges will be shut across the Danube...at least, some already are in Hungary, Only cross the river, if you are willing to take the risk!
