mauthausen or terezin concentration camp

does anyone know how a visit to mauthausen (outside of vienna) compares to a trip to terezin (outside of prague)?

we will be in both cities and would like to visit one of these camps - just not sure which one.

any insight is appreciated. thanks :)

Mauthausen is near Linz and 2 hours away from Vienna. Not sure how to compare such depressing places.

What do you want to compare? In which one were more people killed?

Seems you asked that already in the Czech Forum

I recently visited Mauthausen with a group of Jewish Americans, some of whom had also visited Terezin. They thought the presentation of Terezin was better and more relevant to their personal history. Overall, they felt that Mauthausen (which was primarily a forced labor camp for political prisoners) was too sanitized. The new exhibit is nice, though.

Visited Mauthausen . No visit to these places is pleasant or in any way enjoyable. I went with a friend with a particular interest but his comment was---they are all equally depressing. A visit to one may be salutary but one is definitely enough
