Zell am see or Heiligenblut - 2 nights

Our itinerary is shaping up as follows

Fly in - Vienna 2 nights (Ride the ringstrasse, Schonbrunn palace, Stephens cathedral, Opera house)

Wolfgang 3 nights (Hallstatt/salt mines and surrounding villages)

Zell am see 2 nights (Gross glockner rd/village of Heiligenblut; hiking trails/cable cars maybe check out Lienz)

Alpbach 2 nighs (hiking)

Last night Salzburg 1 night(Mozart's birthplace, Outdoor concert; Hohensalzbrug fortress/funicular)

Our interests are primarily scenic views, some light hiking, pasoral village setting etc. Would you substitute 2 nights in Zell am see for 2 nights in Heiligenblut instead? Also if we do so how long/tedious will it be to drive from Wolfgang to Heiligenblut? Are we better of staying in Zee am see and doing a day trip to cover grossglockner/Heilgenblut. Would appreciate your feedback. Thanks

heiligenblut is a nice village, but it is very small, with little to do. I would recommend that you base yourself in zell, and do heiligenblut as a day trip.

Depending on your interests the Grossglockner road way sights, and atmosphere can take a good amount of time.

several places to stop along the way and spend time walking, photo taking and just enjoying the fine views.

Rather than a need to hurry , I would consider an overnight in Heilingenblut and then return to Zell the next day.

it also allows a back up plan if the weather is not that good by the Grossglockner. No fun trying to view the landscape in less than good weather.

Heligenblut is a beautiful , picturesque ,small village , beautiful church and with nearby villages some things to do.

Look here and see if this place is for you

Hi,

With weather always being the deciding factor, as driving the Grossglockner is not worth doing on a rainy day, I'd stay 2 nights in Zell am See. We stayed in both Zell am See and Heiligenblut, and while Heiligenblut is extremely picturesque, it is very tiny. I'd still go with Zell am See. Either way you can't go wrong, but Zell am See is a nice old town, beautiful setting, etc.
