Hallstatt reservations or not?

My husband and I plan on visiting Hallstatt from Aug. 17-20. I've emailed about 6 B&B who all said they were booked for those days. I really would rather not change my dates either. We'll be in Europe for 3 weeks and it took me quite a while to come up with an itinerary. This is the only major bump in it that needs smoothed out.

Also, I should mention, we're shooting on the frugal side and are avoiding expensive hotels at all costs. So, no Heritage Hotel for us.

I've read that many B&Bs are not listed on the internet. Does anyone have any suggestions or contact information for any locally owned and relatively inexpensive (under $100 a night) places?

Any help would be appreciated!

hallstatt, being quite small has limited accommodation. but just beyond the village is another village called obertraun, where you might find cheap accommodation, or try gosau, or even bad goisern, all within 15 -20 mins of hallstatt.

Hi Tiffany

We are having the same problem -- we booked the Vienna leg and the Salzburg leg, intending to sandwich Hallstaatt in between, but all the hotels are booked. Did you find a good resolution, and did you travel without a car (as we are?) I am concerned about booking a hotel in a nearby village and feeling stuck.

Obertraun

Obertraun is on the north south railway line so easy access from Salzburg/Vienna/Graz

Train/Ferry into Hallstatt via scenic route or catch a bus. Also a very good Taxi company in Obertraun.
