Hallstatt or St. Gilgen with 3 small kids?

Can anyone tell me which town would be better to spend 2 nights in with 3 small children? We will be passing through this region on our way home (to Poland) but can only see one. Which one is more picturesque and also which is most accessible (by car/stroller!) Thanks in advance!

st gilgen would be the best as there are more activities, and you could visit hallstatt on a day trip. if going over winter, nearly everything is shut down in hallstatt, but in st gilgen, you can still do the gondola lift, ferry cruise etc . there is also an animal sanctuary, open 365 days a year in henndorf which is about 30 mins from st gilgen by car. well worth a visit with kids.

Agree hence the question on time of year.

Hallstatt fine in spring/summer with little people. Not a good idea in the winter.
