Resort for Non-Skiers ?

Can anyone recommend a good resort for a couple (late 40's) who want to experience the Tyrol in winter but without the ski-ing.

You do not need to ba a skier to experience most winter resorts .

While skiing my be a pricipal sport - many other things to do.

Many better hotels have wellness/spa programs , indoor/outdoor pools ,

activity programs.

A good example is Seefeld

www.seefeld.at

Nice village center with pedestrian zone, fine shops.

Winter activities like winter walks on repared trails, sleigh rides, ice skating , a small casino. even if you wish cross country skiing.

30 minutes easy train ride to Innsbruck, Moítternwald and Garmisch for sightseeing . Train station is in village center making access convenient .

Fine mountain scenery..

Fun to take one of the lifts high above the village- enjoy sun lounges and good food in a mountasin restaurant.

Village has the Olympia center for pool and other activities.

Easy connections to airports Innsbruck, Munich.

A very small village- compact and quite quiet but with perfect mountain feeling

Berwang

www.berwang.at

good mountain walks, some of the best schnaps , home made by one of the cafes.

sleigh rides . walks to nearby villages -

Not far from Füssen and King Ludwig castles.

Several fine hotels including Sport Hotel Singer with fine spa / wellness program , excelent dining and wine cellar.

Indoor/ outdoor pool is great.

Many thanks for a most informative reply.

Can I ask your opinion on my plans to do a mini tour of The Tyrolean area?

Basically I'd like to fly to Salzburg, then hire a vehicle to travel through Kitzbuhl, then onto Seefeld, then St. Anton, staying for 2 or 3 days in each place.

I intend to do this in the "snowy season" and wondered what your thoughts on driving conditions etc. would be?

Kind regards, Michael

Most all rental autos should come with snow tires during the winter season.

These, by law are mandatory for driving in snow conditions.

Much of your proposed travel would be on major autobahns or larger roadways . Generally if snow does occur , it is removed quickly.

Thus most times problems would be limited .

The majority of your routing would probasbly be at lower altitude too and this could men lesser snow amounts.

I would try to avoid traveling on weekends , especially Saturday as this is a time of major ski vacationers transferring home/ resort and some traaffic stalls possible.

Note that transfers to these places can be done relatively easily by train too.

But winter is a great time to visit for skiers or non skiers as well -

Come and enjoy your time .
