Is Vignette necessary on small roads Fussen to Mittenwald?

Hello,

My understanding of the Toll sticker is that it is required for use on the major highways of Austria. Is it also required on smaller roads? We will be driving from Fussen to MIttenwald. Also, does anyone have a recommendation of driving through Austria or driving on the "Romantic Road" between these two towns? Is one way more scenic than the other?

Thank you!

You don't need the vignette for minor roads, only for motorways. Sorry I can't help with the route comparison.

The Vignette (aka toll sticker) is ONLY necessary for the use of motorways (abbreviation: A and S)!

Fuessen is the southern tereminus of the the "Romantic Road". Mittenwald is south -east of Fuessen. The highway Fuessen - Lermoos (B-314) - Garmisch Partenkirchen(B-187 in Austria/B23 in Germany) - Mittenwald (B-2) runs between Lermoos and G-P along the Zugspitze and is very scenic.and good.

An alternative route that passes by the Linderhof Castle of King Ludwig is: Fuessen south on route 314 to the turnoff to Plansee - Linderhof - Ettal. That turnoff is just north of Reutte. From Ettal take the B-23 to Oberau, and from there the Autobahn/B-2 to Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Mittenwald. Except for Linderhof, this route is not quite as scenic as the Lermoos route. .
