Salzbug area itinerary opinions needed, please

Hi All,

Just need your opinions for my itinerary.

Background: Family traveling with 3 boys, ages 9, 12 & 14. Will have a car. Coming from Ertl, Austria. Will be leaving Ertl late morning, around 10am driving to Salzburg. Salzburg hotel is Hotel Bloberger Hof on the south side of the city. Will have already spent 4+ days in Vienna. Hubby is in a walking boot with one crutch.

Day 1: Drive from Ertl to Salzburg, check into hotel, then in to Salzburg to explore the city.

Day 2: Explore more old town Salzburg and hit major sites for sure, do the Mozart dinner concert at Stifskeller

Day 3: Cable car Untersburg, Berchtesgaden Salt mine, Hellbrunn Castle

Day 4: Explore lake region (Fuschisee, St. Gilgen (ride Zwölferhorn cable car), Strobl, Bad Ischl) then to Hallstatt if there is time.

Day 5: Check out after breakfast and drive to Garmisch

Does this look reasonable? Thoughts? Ideas? Thanks for any input, ideas and opinions. Appreciate it!!

The Salzburg fortress will fascinate the children, great armour, weapons, etc, wonderful outlook. Make sure you join a tour to get to all the otherwise inaccessible areas. Some stairs, hubby may need to skip tour?

The old city is compact, lots of seating for hubby to rest his leg.

While in Berchtesgaden do the Konigsee boat ride, lovely. Easy flat walking trail around second lake, just do first section of it, you will get the feel of the gorgeous forest, turquoise waters, before trail gets a bit rougher.

Jennerbahn close by, the trail to the lookout is very smooth. Overlooks Konigsee, really beautiful. (Better than Untersberg for views, plus Untersberg trails are very rough in comparison, with loose stone, and steep sections).

agree...salzburg fortress is nice and kids of 9,12, 14 ages will also enjoy the berchtesgaden salt-mines. Konigsee is no doubt beautiful but not sure children will enjoy it.

Thank you, both, so much!

So I revised our plan:

Day 1, July 29:

Drive from Ertl to Salzburg, go south along Attersee then north along Monsee. Stop as we see interesting things in Seewalchen at am Attersee, Weyregg, Alxenau, Blumigen Seefeld, Steinbach at am Attersee, Mahdlschneid, Gmauret, Weissenbach am Atterssee, and Mondsee on the way to Salzburg. Check into hotel, then in to Salzburg to explore the city.

Day 2, July 30:

Explore more old town Salzburg and hit major sites for sure, do the Mozart dinner concert at Stifskeller

Day 3, July 31:

Jenner Bergbahn, boat ride on lake Konigsee if crowds allow, Berchtesgaden Salt mine, explore Berchtesgaden, Hellbrunn Castle (near 6p for fountains)

Day 4, Aug. 1:

Explore lake region (Fuschisee, St. Gilgen (ride Zwölferhorn cable car), Strobl, Bad Ischl) then to Hallstatt if there is time.

Day 5, Aug. 2:

Check out after breakfast and drive to Garmisch. Go to Herrenchiemsee island on the way

Thanks for the help and input! Any other thoughts, opinions and ideas are welcome and appreciated.
