Driving from Munich to Berchtesgaden, Salzburg, and Hallstat

I plan on driving from Munich to Salzburg, and then possibly taking day trips to Hallstatt and Berchtesgaden. Any mountains/elevations to deal with while driving?

Fro Munich to Salzburg via the Deutscher Alpenstrasse has some grades, but nothing serious for driving. Alpenstrasse (German Alpine Highway) starts at Siegsdorf exit on the A-8 Autobahn. Follow B-306 to Inzell. Shortly after Inzell Alpenstrasse gets joined by another spur of this highway and changes to road designation B-305. Stay on B-305 to Berchtesgaden and German Austrian border near Salzburg .

If you decide to stay on the Munich Salzburg autobahn to Salzburg, read up on need for Austrian Autobahn toll "vignette" (widow sticker) on "Search" below.

Driving to Hallstat is a lovely drive. Austrian roads mostly follow the valley floor so you won't find anything difficult to deal with. I recommend you get to Hallstat in the morning as the sun is on the village and mountains. In the afternoon the mountains are shaded and not so picturesque.

And when you do Hallstatt I would recommend you visit the historic town of Bad Ischl on the way back to Salzburg.
