Planning a day trip to Salzburg from Munich.
Planned to take the 6:24am Munich-Salzburg train (arrives 7:58 am) just so that we could be in good time to join the 9:30am Sound of Music tour in Salzburg. That is on Railjet. Return to Munich via RB or RE trains (Bayern ticket).
I just realised the Bayern ticket is a DAY ticket, not a 1-way ticket... meaning all we pay for the return journey is only 38Euros for 5 adults (or less, if the 5 pax are husband, wife + children) - correct? Provided of course we travel after 9am. That would mean we cannot make it for the 9:30am SOM tour.
Am now contemplating switching to the 2p.m. tour. That would mean quite a bit of savings since we won't need to buy a separate Railjet ticket.
Just wondering : In 3rd week of December, wouldn't it be dark by 4pm or so in Salzburg? The SOM tour lasts 4 hours - what could we possibly see once it's dark? Any comments from forummers who might have taken this afternoon tour in December before?
