Hubby & wife planning to visit Salzburg for the very first time from 23 Dec - 26 Dec to experience the magical Austrian Christmas Markets :)
We would really love your thoughts/suggestions on our itinerary below:
23 Dec - Arrive in the morning, check out the Salzburg Christmas Markets. We're planning to squeeze in 4 in one day, is this crazy? Especially excited for the markets at Hellbrunn Palace & Cathedral Sq.
24 Dec - Day trip to St Gilgen Christmas/New Year Market, Ferry to St Wolfgang & Strobl - would public transport and ferry services run normally on this day?
25 Dec - From reading the forums, it seems everything in Salzburg is shut on Xmas day so we're considering a visit to Hallstatt maybe? Totally aware that Hallstatt will be very quiet and not many businesses will be open either, but we're just really keen to soak in some beautiful scenery. What is the most reliable way to get there on Xmas day without knowing what services/public transport will be available? If Hallstatt is a no go... any other suggestions as to what we could do on this day? Not into any excursions at all. Happy to jump on a bus or train and do our own thing.
26 Dec - Leave early morning for Innsbruck
Just wanting assurance that the above dates and the corresponding activities will be possible given that it is over the Christmas period.
