driving at salzburg & vienna

Hi,

I am planning to Austria for about 1 week.

I am just wondering about the traffic there

As I am fr sg, driver seat at right. Not at left.

I am wondering whether it is worth to pay for it as only 2 of us.

Car rental can be quite expensive but I would like to go to rural area of salzburg.

Anyone can advise? Would really appreciate.

Jaynr

There is no online train tickets available at Austria.

I was advised by train company to purchase the train tickets via email with credit card info. Isnt it a risk?

Is there any other way??? Help me.

For the time you are there a hire car is not essential. Train to vienna is easy----all info given on here many times either OBB or Westbahn. Likewise 150 bus to the Salzkammergut area. Driving is very stess free and easy but really not required in a week. You will spend at least 1 full day in Salazburg itself thern 2 more days exploring the Salazkammergut or Berchtesgarden areas. Vienna----a car would be a total waste of money as public transport is so efficient

For Salzburg to Vienna it's easiest and most flexible to take a train of Westbahn. Just turn up at the station and pay on the train at a fixed price of €23.90

Train or Bus depending on where you want to go.

Bus, pay the driver on the day.

Train, buy on the day from a ticket machine.

Bus/Train/Boat Timetables.

Not sure how many people travelling but sometimes this ticket can be good value. Just note terms and conditions of use. (2 - 5 people travelling)

the easiest " rural" area close to salzburg would be the wolfgangsee area. accessible by bus 150 . time taken to st gilgen...40 mins, and then there are ferries to st wolfgang and strobl. gondola lift to top of mountain and a panorama walk through high pastures (tinkling cow bells), at st gilgen. cog railway to top of schafberg at st wolfgang.

Hi,

Thank you

Is it easy to access if I don't have a car? Thats my concern. Should I stay there? Any accomodation there?

How frequent is the bus?

Is there any alternative?

Sorry. 1st time to Austria. But I know it is beautiful from the posted photos.

Too excited.
