Salzburg -> Hallstatt -->Hohenwefen castle/Berchtesgaden

Hi Staff_Austria,

Below is my itinerary 2 days as below:

10/08/2014 Salzburg --> Hallstat ->

Take bus#150 from Salzburg to Bad Ischl - (Euro9.6)

Take train from Bad Ischl to Hallstat.

I have a booking (not confirm yet) at Bad Goisern. Not sure it is a good place.

Qns: How long from Hallstatt to Bad Goisern?

11/08/2014 Hohenwefen castle/Berchtesgaden National Park

Is there any bus/train from Bad Goisern? If no, i will have go back to Salzburg?

Please advise. Thank you very much

jayne. i am sure that staff will respond. the train from bad ischl to hallstatt passes through bad goisern. i would reckon that fron bad goisern to hallstatt would be about 20 -25 mins. at hallstatt station, a ferry meets you to take you across to the vllage proper. when returning, just watch out for last journey.

to get to hohenwerfen from bad goisern, will mean bus or train to bad ischl, and then bus to salzburg. you will then have to take another bus to the castle. a journey of a number of hours at best.

if you only have 2 days in the area, you might want to explore salzburg city on the second day, rather than use up a lot of time trying to get to werfen and berchtesgaden.

Take bus#150 from Salzburg to Bad Ischl - (Euro9.6)

Gone up to €10.10

Bad Goisern - Hallstatt = 11 -14 minutes depending on type of train (R or REX)

Plus ferry time across the lake.

Bad Goisern is nice. Pretty quiet and surrounded by mountains and woods. (One of the main industries is forestry)

Bad Goisern to Werfen is as described by nakagoli. (Takes 3 hours)

Hi Both,

For the day before (9-Aug), I will visit Melk. Is it better for me to travel to Salzburg and to bad goisern as I have the problem to get a cheaper accommodation at Salzburg on 9-Aug.

You can go from Melk to Hallstatt.

3 Trains and quickest route is 3 hours 5 minutes.

Also have you looked at staying in Obertraun?

I think you need to look at Google Maps and work out where everything is and the distances apart. You can then work out a logical route. Don't try and cram too much in or you will spend 50% of your holiday on a train.

9-aug: from vienna to melk. From melk to hallstat. Can help to advise? So that I take into consideration.

10-aug: hallstat. Overnight at bad goisern

11-aug: cycling at salzburg old city. Over night at salzburg

12-aug: visit the castle plus national park if possible.

12-aug late night/13-aug: travel to munich.

13/14-aug: at munich.

I couldnt find. It is quite full even expensive hotel as my itinerary is confirmed quite late. I still would like to go to hallstatt...beautiful view.

Is there any pass or card that is advisible to buy? To save some...

If I travel from Vienna directly to bad ischl, it is euro47 or 48 by the train company. Is that correct?

Is it worth to get austria rail pass for 3 days?
