St Johann accomodation

Hi

I am looking for any suggestions for accomodation in St Johann in Tirol for next February 2008 as I can't see many reviews here on TA.

We would prefer to stay close to the Seilbahn Harschbichl lift base if at all possible. We would probably like to go half board - that is breakfast each day and dinner most evenings. We would also like a bar where we can get together and reminisce.

You see there will be about 12 of us - all in our 50s having a reunion ski trip from when we first met on the Austrian ski slopes 30 years ago!

We have the names of the following hotels and wondered if any one has stayed in any of them and can offer any comments:

Hotel Sonne

Christian-Blattl-Weg 7,6380 St. Johann in Tirol

Panoramahotel - Garni

Gasterhaus Mariacher

Hotel Landhaus Poll

It's quite difficult to get the names of hotels in this area and I would be grateful for any help - thanks fro Jane

Last year we were spending one week in this hotel :http://www.austria-trend.at/en/?id=FIB

Not exactly near St. Johann (20 Km) but it was just on the slopes (which I especially appreciate).

Halfboard was very good, the same as the room.

The village is 2 Km away but there are some places to have a drink around.

Hope this can help a bit

St johann is a brilliant spot and with north facing slopes the coverage was good even this year. You can get all the hotels on www.stjohannintirol.com. I think the best hotel is the austria sport hotel. Other hotels close to the lift are the Park and the Crystal. The standard is good and there are excellent restaurants in the village.

Sorry just looked at the names you menitoned. Didnt like the panorama garni but the landhaus poll is well located and firends of mine had a good time there.

Thanks for your comments BrendanDL. It is great to get some personal feedback both about the village and the hotels. I am busy checking out the hotels you have mentioned and also I am busy exploring the website.

Are there any restaurants you would particularily recommend?

I have eaten at the Poll before - the food was great, and it's in a great location for the lifts.

I have stayed at the Hotel Park a number of times and can't fault it, great rooms, great location, great food and the Grander family always make you feel welcome - and it's handy for the lifts as well.

Hi

All of the Hotels you have listed are fine ....the standards in Austria are so high , in twenty years visiting ,we have rarely found a poor hotel.

We always stay in the beautifully painted Post Hotel in the centre of the village. It is about 10 minutes walk to the lifts and right in the centre of all the night life. It is rated three star but in reality far exceeds this rating. Any photographs of the centre of St. Johann will always feature the Post.

It is a very old hotel with bags of character and many of the rooms have been totally renovated in the past few years. Half board here is excellent with a great cold breakfast buffet with the offer of fresh hot food made to order. The dinner is excellent...the Post is a Tirolerwirthaus meaning that it is recognised as a Hotel specialising in true Tirolean food. The service is friendly and welcoming and the tarif includes entrance to the Outdoor/Indoor Swimming Pool complex in the village.

Ten days a year here is never enough!

Hi Jane:

My family and I stayed (with a group of about 12) in the Hotel Park (www.park.at) in St. Johann last January. We had a great time there, it is very relaxed and the staff are really nice. The food was excellent and I would be quite picky. When you are carrying ski gear around it is nice to be near the lift and the Park is on the same street as the gondola and it's only 2 minutes walk...it was great to be so close, you really appreciate it after a long day's skiing. The big reception area has a bar and they had some entertainment a few of the evenings, the atmosphere in there is fun. You are also very close to the village and the other bars etc. if you are going out. We never had to take a bus or get a taxi anywhere. The hotel is very very clean, the rooms are not designery or ultra modern but they are very comfortable and cosy. I stayed in a very new and fancy-pants hotel the year before in Alpbach and the staff were quite sour and the place just had an unfriendly atmosphere... the Park is so much better and St. Johann is such a nice place to visit, very Tyrolean. All of the group are going back to the Park again in 2008. Maybe we'll see you there...good luck!

I have stayed at the Park Hotel and the Sporthotel Austria, both in St. Johann in Tirol. The Park was good but the Sporthotel is excellent in every respect. The owner Gunther Gatt is helpful beyond the call of duty. He knows the best places to ski, which runs to do in the morning and which are best in the afternoon. The food is excellent and we stayed in a category A room which was very comfortable. It has a large and comfy bar area, plenty of room for a party of 12 to sit together. The web address is www.sporthotelaustria.at. We stayed there this January and are hoping to go again in June.
