Transport from Wien Westbahnhof to Philharmonikerstrasse

Hi,

It looks like a pretty short ride (about 2.5 miles?) from the westbahnhof to our hotel on Philharmonikerstrasse. To those of you who've done this, do you recommend a taxi? Any idea of cost?

Thanks to all you helpful travelers.

I think that's by the Opera House. If you plan to use public transport while in Vienna, then get a pass and use the ubahn. You can take the U3 from Westbahnhof to St Stephan's and walk from St Stepan's down Kartnerstrasse - about a 5 minute walk (street will be on your right). Or U3 to Volkstheater and change to the U2 (purple line) - take it to Karlsplatz. Use the exit Opera and you will run into your street with a short 1 minute walk. Street will be on the left.

I would determine the choice of transport depending on your group size and the weight of your luggage.

I you are just two people and travelling light, take the subway U3 in direction Simmering from Wien Westbahnhof to Stephansplatz. From there it takes 10 minutes by foot to your hotel.

If you are more people and have heavy luggage, travelling with a taxi might be a better choice. Expect about 15 € for the ride. Find taxi companies on wien.info/en/travel-info/to-and-around/taxi (but there are also many taxis in front of the rail station waiting for customers).

Best regards, Christina

Thanks much Christina and Kim. We will have luggage so I think we'll take a taxi but once we check-in to our hotel and are without luggage, we'll use your directions to go to and from the Westbahnhof for our Wachau Valley trip.

Trains from Budapest initially stop at Wien-Meidling Station before they continue to their final stop Wien-Westbahnhof. From Wien-Meidling Station it would be easy to continue to Philharmonikerstraße by tram #62 (direction: Karlsplatz Oper). You can walk the rest, it won't take more than 2-3 minutes. Most trams are now low-floor ones which can also be used easily with baggage.
