2 weeks in Norway with a car - any suggestions?

Hi all,

We are going on a 3 weeks trip to Scandinavia for our honeymoon. gonna stay for a few days in Copenhagen and then visit Sweden (probably just Stockholm) and from there to about 2 weeks in Norway.

We would really love some advices about recommended routes in Norway (we'll have a rented car), especially for seeing fjords but any other beautiful place is of course an option.

We do hope not to spend too much budget wise, so any recommendation about saving tactics would be great as well :)

Thanks!!

Yael

We need to know when you plan to travel. Suggested itineraries and how to plan, see top questions top right hand corner of the forum (full version, not app).

hey,

you are totaly right - we are going to be in Scandinavia from mid August till the first week of September.

Interested mainly in sightseeing and nature this trip, though we are open to suggestions - e.g. interesting cultural events.

Probably going to go for simple accomodation, at least for most of the nights.

We would prefer not to spend more than 200 usd for the two of us a day (not including car rental).

Thanks a lot!

I would suggest you take a direct flight from Stockholm to Bergen, spend some days in Bergen, rent a car to tour the fjords.

USD 200 - NOK 1200 (I suggest you get used to using local currency in forums) for food, lodging and expenditure on attractions (excluding car hire and fuel) for 2 is a very tight budget in Norway. It won't cover reasonable hotels and restaurants. You'll need to read that link provided by Klima carefully. You can save a lot by optimising car hire costs. Compare with http://www.finn.no/r/leiebiler/ (open in Chrome browser for translation) and CarTrawler prices through Norwegian airline http://www.norwegian.com/uk/

I completely agree with dyoll that 1200 NOK a day is quite tight but I just looked at our spreadsheet for last year and that's more or less what we spent excluding flights and getting to and from the airport both ends. We had two nights in a "reasonable hotel" (including evening meals) and had only one meal out in a restaurant but otherwise self catered and stayed in some interesting places. It took a bit of planning but we had a lovely time and didn't feel we missed out on anything - did plenty of activities but also took advantage of free stuff like hiking. However it would be extremely easy to spend a lot of money in Norway without being obviously extravagant.
